History of our Service Boot®
The Service Boot® is our foundational product that dates back to the 1930s. The pattern is a classic 6" derby boot, which is one of the most versatile patterns available.
Originally made for hard work, outside - Edwin Viberg set out to create what he believed to be the most supportive crafted boot for farm and prairie labourers. The original Service Boot® was made with "Nailed Down" construction, which we still use to this day with our heavy industrial products.
Today, the Service Boot® is synonymous with the Viberg brand, just as it was in the 1930s. In 2020, Viberg Boot was approved by the USPTO with a registered trade dress trademark for the Service Boot®. This trademark certifies Viberg as 'first to market' this type of product that did not previously exist in the market.
Distinguished by the double-row stitching on the forefront of the vamp, our Service Boot® is exclusively produced using our Stitchdown construction. This construction type lends itself to our company's history in the Pacific Northwest, as it offers superior weather protection. Stitchdown construction keeps your feet dry due to the turned-out vamp, making it suitable for year round use in almost any condition. Even when paired with the highest grade leathers available - like Horween's Shell Cordovan, Stitchdown construction will perform and function exactly like our industrial products. In addition to this, our Stitchdown Service Boot is fully resole-able and recraft-able, allowing for lifelong use.
The chassis of the Service Boot® is made with a heavyweight 5-5.5mm solid leather insole that holds everything in place. We also use a solid 3-3.4mm solid leather heel counter and 1.8-2mm solid leather toe box. Additionally, we use vegetable-tanned leather lining, making the internal components of our Service Boot® 100% natural, as well as providing both support and protection for your feet.
